Simona Rota

Simona Rota ( Macin , Romania, 1979) studied Political Sciences in Bucharest and Barcelona and Photography in Madrid, where she currently lives . Commissioned by the Museum of Architecture in Vienna, she carried out a mission of photographic documentation of modern architecture in the former Soviet republics (2010-2012 ) . She has exhibited , among others, at The Kursala, the Sevastopol Art Museum, the Stadtmuseum of Graz, the Architektur Zentrum Wien, the Museum of Modern Art of Medellin, the Museum of Modern Art Reina Sofia in Madrid.

Her works have been selected and displayed among others, at Fotonoviembre’13, at Arles Photobooks’ 13, at F Book Show Tokyo 2014 , at Vienna Art Week’12, at SCAN’ 12 etc . In 2014, she is going to exhibit at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid ( solo ) within PhotoEspaña 2014 and at Fundación Foto Colectania in Barcelona (group ).

She has received several awards including, having been selected in the section ” Authors in selection ” of the Biennial Fotonoviembre 2013, having been selected to exhibit at The Kursala – University of Cádiz. She was a finalist at PhotoEspaña Discoveries 2012, at Arte40, at the Purification García’12 Award. She won several awards at the Festival Emergent – Lleida in 2011 and received the Photography Award of the Architecture Museum of Vienna in 2009.

She has published the books ” Ostalgia ” ( Fabulatorio – Kursala , Cádiz, 2013 ) and “Missbehave ” (Vibok Works Seville,2013). In 2013, the International Center of Photography in New York (ICP ) has chosen her book ” Ostalgia ” among the top 10 best photography books of the year.
